The Hemlock Journal announces its first-ever Writing Contest. The Theme of the contest will be Anti-War Fiction. Why did we choose this theme? We think it is the call of the time. The world is going through many tragedies and we strongly believe that lessons of Peace and Anti-War sentiments are a need of the time. What is the more powerful medium than the Stories?

Publication

The winning stories from The Hemlock Anti-War Writing Contest 2024 will be entitled to get Cash Prizes and Publication in the Special 2024-25 issue of The Hemlock Journal. 

Eligibility

• Each and every writer, from any background is allowed to submit to the contest.
• Writers who have first hand experienced the havoc of war and the new and emerging writers will be given priority.

Submitting

We are accepting only Fiction up to 1,000 words and a minimum of 400 words. Excerpts of the longer works are not allowed. (writers who have first-hand experience of war are advised to write a blend of fiction and non-fiction)

• Submit via Google Form. 
• Only one entry per author is allowed.
• No entries via email or mail will be considered for the contest.
• Submitted work must be original and previously unpublished in any form.
• Sorry, for the contest, simultaneous submissions are not welcomed.
• We cannot accommodate revisions once a manuscript has been submitted.
• If submitting work with images, if possible, ensure any images are high resolution (300 dpi).
• We strongly encourage typed, double-spaced and numbered pages.
• We only accept submissions in Doc or Docx file. Please include your name, title of the submission, and payment details in the same file.
• Cover letters are not necessary.

Entry Fee

If you are an Indian writer, please pay a fee of 200₹ via Gpay. Please contact us via email while paying.

If you are an international writer, please be in touch via email for more information about this process. The Entry Fee is 3$. We prefer PayPal.
