Book Review of ‘$20,000 Under the Sea by Sam Locrian’

$20,000 Under the Sea by Sam Locrian is a mix of thrill and fantasy. The author has authentically created four characters who are distinctly different from each other, but are connected unexpectedly on a cruise.

The plot revolves around the central character of Carol Jones uff Charlotte Glossington Clarke, a British aristocrat in the US with a mission. The story flows through Carol’s eyes as she meets other three individuals unexpectedly during a poker game on a cruise and they end up in a mission where it’s no longer about Carol’s quest, but a question on the identity of each one of them.

Coming to the other three important characters who end up with Carol, first is Beau Pierre, a complete vagabond, who knows the underhand technique in betting. He is on the cruise to understand what’s the real mission of the poker game that’s played in the cruise. His curiosity makes him poke his head here and there why a rich man needs $20,000 from a poker game.

Second is Bennet Fontaine, who gets a chance in both the cruise and poker game because of an accident. Bennet is the most confused among the lot, he feels unsure of being in the cruise, game or the mission, but is forced to tag along with the rest.

Last but not least Lamont Sterling who is dealing with his own trauma of being in the war irrespective of being called America’s best Aviator.

The author has succeeded in creating a perfect atmosphere for all four of them to come together and then chase answers to the questions thrown to them during the cruise.

Time period of the story is set in 1920 and the book captures the social life of those times in the US.

The author has introduced the fantasy element in the storyline through the classified papers of “Project Fallenstar” that searches for aliens in human form and how the four protoganist try to grapple with the truth bombs mentioned in that report. The book deals with the relationship dynamics that develops between the four protoganist from reluctant partners to grudging admirers and finally crisis partners during the mission.

Most importantly it deals with how Carol and Lamont come together as trusting partners and how that relationship blooms into something beautiful emerging from the tragedies of the past. Overall a good read for all lovers of fantasy thrillers.
