Upcoming Deadlines That You Shouldn’t Miss!

The coming months are going to be busy at The Hemlock Journal and exciting for the Writers, Poets, and Contributors. With a new issue ready for release, the results of our poetry contest approaching, and several new opportunities for writers on the horizon, there is plenty to look forward to. Here are the important dates to mark on your calendar.

October 09, 10 and 11 — Intensive Poetry Writing Workshop with international best selling author, Asha Ponnachan

October 9th will also mark the beginning of our 3 days long intensive Poetry Writing Workshop with revered author and internally bestselling poet from Canada, Asha Ponnachan.

October 15, 2026 — Issue 12 (Winter 2026-27) Submissions Open

Submissions for Issue 12 of The Hemlock Journal will open on October 15th.

We will once again welcome poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and art from writers and artists around the world. We’re always looking for work that is original, thoughtful, honest, and memorable.

Submission guidelines will be published when the window opens.

November 1, 2026 — One Sentence Story Contest Results

We thank all the writers and poets from around the world for this extraordinary response. We received 2,362 ‘One Sentence Story’ submissions from 103 countries. We are currently through reading and selection process. We’ll update Longlist and Shortlist during within a week. Stay Tuned!

November 15, 2026 — Short Story Contest begins

Our next major fiction (1,000 to 3,000 words) contest will open on November 15.

The Short Story Contest will invite writers to submit their strongest short fiction for consideration. Details about the theme, word limit, Cash prizes, entry requirements, and submission process will be announced closer to the opening date.

December 31st, 2026 — Novelette Submissions Closes

On September 15, for the first time, we opened novelette submissions for solo-author publication. This new opportunity is for writers with longer works of fiction that sit between the traditional short story and novella (7,000-15,000 words).
