Publish your Longer Stories as Solo Books with The Hemlock Journal

We are inviting submissions for novelettes for our upcoming publication. Please read the following guidelines carefully before submitting.

Submission Guidelines :

1. Word Count

• Submissions must be between 7,500 and 15,000 words. (No exceptions)

2. Original & Unpublished Manuscript

• We accept only previously unpublished works.
• Simultaneous submissions are allowed, provided you notify us immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere.

3. How to Submit

• All submissions must be made exclusively through the Google Form linked above.
• Do not submit your work by email.
• Submissions sent by email will not be considered.

4. File Format

• Please upload your complete manuscript as a Word (.doc or .docx) file.
• Do not submit a Google Docs link or any other external link.
• Please ensure that the uploaded file is accessible and can be opened before submitting.

5. Payment for Selected Authors

Selected authors will receive payment according to the following formula

• $80 / ₹7,000, OR
• $1.5 / ₹100 per page

Whichever amount is higher will be paid.

Note: Selected authors will be paid the above PRIZE MONEY, not the royalty share based on copies sold.

The applicable currency and payment arrangement will be confirmed with selected authors.

6. Author Copies Bonus

Selected authors will receive an additional $20/ ₹1500 after they have ordered their author copies.

• A minimum purchase of 2 author copies is required to qualify for this additional payment.

7. Submission Fee

• The submission fee is $8/ ₹700 per submission.
• Each individual submission requires a separate submission fee.

8. Feedback Report

• Authors may optionally request a feedback report on their submission for an additional $10/₹800
• The feedback report is optional and is separate from the submission fee.

Be a member and do not pay the above mentioned submission and feedback fees and lot of other benefits worth $300 for just $50.

9. Submission Window

Submissions will be accepted from:

September 15th through December 31th

Submissions received after December 31 will not be considered unless the submission period is officially extended.

10. Medium of Publication

• Print Books (Online Bookstores, including Amazon and B&N)
• E-books (B&N, Smashwords, Torino, Overdrive, Kobo etc.)
• PDF (to be sold by The Hemlock’s platform)

Important Notes

• Payment of the submission fee does not guarantee publication or selection.
• The feedback report fee does not guarantee acceptance.
• Submit only your strongest and most polished work.
• By submitting, you confirm that the work is your original work and complies with these guidelines.
• Any AI-generated or AI-assisted work is not allowed
